So I am new to the board as this is my first time typing a message
But I guess it is getting closer to my surgery and might need support throughout this journey
I have been lurking on this board for over a year now (so I feel I might know some of you just by reading your post)

I am scheduled to have surgery July 12 but have not received approval from my insurance yet (uhc cp) going on two weeks... And getting anxious

I think my story is similar to many of you here, struggled with weight most of my life, yoyo diets, Dr, WW, you name it I think I've tried

My journey might be different in the way that I think I did this whole process backward

I did lipos and tt before the wls...needless to say it does not work

It different also because on this new journey I will not be sharing with my DH or most of my family (only my mother )

I am a light weight currently at 206 and between 4"11 and 5"1 some days I seem taller I guess.. People do not see me as the morbid obese person I am
They see the smiley person who is "chubby" but has a cute face

I have been married for 14 years with no children that I might want one day .
So if all goes well I will continue on this new journey to see where it may lead! Which I hope is getting this 80 lbs monkey of my back

Welcome to the LW board. I have been posting on this site a couple months and I have to say that it really helped me to talk to others who have similar weight loss concerns that I have. I pray that you find what you need here as well. People are really friendly and helpful and there is always someone who has shared the same or similar experience that you are having.

Welcome to the LW board!  What surgery are you having and why are you not telling your DH?  I realize everyone has different personal reasons why they do/don't, but I'm just thinking it will be difficult to explain your new eating, vitamin, etc regimine.

He knows I'm having surgery (hiatial hernia repair) but does not know that I will be having vsg. I choose not to tell him as he has never seen an issue with my body and loves me for who I am, but at the same time does not like doctors, surgeries, etc.
He cannot cope with these things and the times I've had other procedures done he has not been able to help
I cannot be mad at him for it I have learned to accept
He is supportive but just does not like to see me sick
He is my high school sweetheart and has seem me go through a lot so I do not want to pressure him as a lw I think the weight will come off slower than most so the change will not be that drastic
As far as vitamins and all other things ive been doing things like this for a long time and would not surprise him
As it is now I take way to many pills and see too many doctors.. That if all goes well, I might say good bye to all my meds

I don't blame U for wanting to keep it secret  lol !

the recovery is very similar and honestly ....  U can credibly  say that  U overate  because Ur esophagus was constantly irrritated from the acid reflux .

I dont think we have to tell our  husbands everything lol and hear about itaking the easy way out when he decides to pick a fight  ... but I warn U  .. its gonna be pretty hard to keep the secret  while  hes visiting U in the hospital ... and right after surgery when the surgeon tells HIM  ( because he's  Ur SPOUSE  how things went ) ... unless hes pretty inattentive  .... some guys are  ...  they don't notice a THING unless U actually draw it to their attention ...  if hes like that .. Ur secret might  stay  secret - wouldn't that be FUNNY  ?!    I wasn't married  when  I  had my suregry ..but I just told one person myself who picked me up from the hospital and  helped me in the first week ...  and the rest i told the hiatal hernia story .   It worked out very well  .   Im REALLY glad now I didn't tell.

 Welcome!
Don't be surprised if you lose quickly. It may be hard to explain. Some of the people in my life who didn't know I had surgery were concerned about my rapid weight loss. They didn't confront me, but asked others. If you have a concerned spouse, he may worry. I have chosen to share because I think WLS should be mainstream. No different from heart surgery. Nothing to be ashamed of. That is just my opinion and this board respects anyone else's opinion, too.

I was happy to see the cover story on an AARP magazine was about WLS and the good it can do. I no longer have type two diabetes and high cholesterol. It has changed my life for the better. Wishing you success however you chose to share or not.

WELCOME and I'm glad you decided to post and not be a lurker!!!  Congrats on your upcoming surgery!!

We all have to do what's best for ourselves and our families, but I can't imagine my DH not knowing that I had WLS and he would be really upset if I admitted  it later.  Like someone else that posted mentioned, people thought I was sick because I started taking weight off quickly.  I also did go through a stage when I did look kind of peaked and pale.  What about when you start losing your hair?  If he is a worrier I can't see how he wouldn't notice the rapid changes in your eating patterns and body shape.

Keep us updated!!

Roz

God is walking with me every step of the way. Because of HIM this is possible!!

WOW- Welcome and I will keep your journey in my thoughts.  I hope you are approved without issue.   I think your weight loss will be noticeable and people will have questions...just so you are prepared.  Because just as I feared people really did notice how big I was, and noticed when the weight was melting  away.  Not that I kept it a secret...but I am a private person (usually!) and only shared with a few people.  I hate telling people I had a revision because the first assumption is that I abused my tool (even if I did wouldn't I deserve help?) but in my situation there were medical reasons for the revision to my pouch.  Babies was the main suspect...since my pregnancies were carried very much inward- hence the strain & damage to my pouch and other organs.  I hope your WL brings you a health lifestyle and helps you to reach the accomplishments you dream of.
